What happens if my unemployment claim is denied? Can I appeal the decision?

Asked 6 months ago
If your unemployment claim is denied by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, you have the right to appeal their decision. You must file an appeal within 15 calendar days from the mailing date of the denial notice. The appeal can be submitted online or through mail. Once your appeal is received, a hearing will be scheduled with the Appeals Section. During the hearing, you will have the opportunity to present evidence and witnesses to support your claim. It is essential to provide any relevant documents or records that demonstrate your eligibility for unemployment benefits. The hearing will be conducted over the phone or in person, and you will receive a written decision afterward. Remember to carefully follow the appeal process to have the opportunity to reverse the denial decision.
