What if I made a mistake on my state tax return?

Asked 6 months ago
If you made an error on your state tax return, don't worry - you can rectify it. Firstly, if you haven't filed yet, simply correct the mistake and submit the revised return. However, if you've already filed, you'll need to file an amended return. To do so, complete Form IT-201-X, Amended Resident Income Tax Return, or Form IT-203-X, Amended Nonresident and Part-Year Resident Income Tax Return, depending on your residency status. State the correction you need to make and provide supporting documentation if necessary. Ensure that the amended return is signed and dated. If you made an error in calculation or forgot to include income or deductions, the Department will make the necessary adjustments. However, if you made mistakes with federal changes or credits, you should file an amended federal return before the state return.
