I want to get my daughter some type of credit or debit card that she can use when she is out with her friends, but I don't really want to open a bank account for a ten-year-old. I know I could, but it's just not something I want to entertain right now. Then I had the thought that I could use a prepaid card, but I wanted to check on the associated fees first. I've heard of Vanilla Prepaid Cards so I thought that I would start by calling them to find out what their fee structure looks like for adding money. 

When I called, a voice said, "You have reached Vanilla Prepaid Cards. For English, press 1. For French, press 2." I pressed one and then it told me, "Please enter your 16-digit card number from the front of your card. Or press 1 to hear important things about your card. Or press 2 if you have lost your card. If you cannot read or do not have a 16-digit card number and would like to talk to a customer service representative press 3."

All I needed was to talk to a customer service agent to ask about the fee structure, so option 3 gave me a great way to skip to a representative. I chose that and then it told me, "Please hold while your call is transferred to customer care."  Another voice then picked up and said, "Thank you for calling customer care, your call may be monitored for quality assurance. Due to high call volume, your wait time might be longer." This worried me, but immediately once the speech ended, Emma picked up. It went from a wait time to zero wait, and Emma was easy to talk to which made the experience overall great.
